Amalfi Coast and Pompeii

The last excursion day of our Mediterranean cruise. We ported in Naples, Italy at daybreak. The sunrise was once again mighty and powerful illuminating Mt. Vesuvius in the distance. The contrast of old world and new world was on display in the radiant light. As we hustled to be ready for the day's adventures, we quickly grabbed drinks and breakfast and headed off the ship to join up with our self-booked bus trip on the Amalfi Coast. We were eager to explore Sorrento, Positano and Pompeii. We had to keep a swift pace and keep our eyes open wide to see all that we had on the agenda. A rushed and memorable day indeed. Within all my images, there is one that best summarizes the day for me. Only on the last sea day, did I get motion sick. On the big, manual shift bus ride.  The curving, narrow, fast speed Italian coast road got the best of me. I created an awesome memory for my family- something to laugh about for a long time. I'll own it. And now I have a photo to best sum up how I really felt that day. Can you find it?

Athens, Greece | Family Travel Documentary

Athens. The hottest day off the ship. Like, I'm not sure I can pay attention, hot! Despite the heat and crowds, we had a great day with a knowledgeable and passionate guide, Nema. She treated us to an extraordinary day visiting the ruins, fast passing us in the incredible Acropolis Museum (do not leave this off your Athens list) and a delicious lunch. She was a memorable part of our day. Did I mention heat? Take note of the cloudless, blue skies. Part of me wonders how civilizations survived without air conditioning.

I want to make special note and quote my husband when he opened the cabin curtains that morning, "Wow! That's not what I expected." He was peering down into a unoccupied parking lot.  Just an industrial hardscape. But.... I saw the beauty in the sunrise.
